Preying Mantis or Something Else Entirely?

At first glance, this image resembles a giant Praying Mantis, a predatory insect that appears to be ominously flying above people innocently walking along this misty-looking street. However, this is, in fact, misleading; it’s actually just a common mosquito. Yes, it’s a nasty blood-sucking mozzie, but it’s definitely normal-sized. Unfortunately, it simply got too close to this photographer’s camera lens, and this is the startling result. It looks like something out of a horror movie!

There are 3,000 mosquito species, and these insects are known to transmit more diseases than any other creature. It's incredible that something so tiny can be both such a nuisance and a danger!
