Nobody had succeeded to flee Alcatraz; they would either be the first or join a long line of failed criminals who never lived to share their experiences. Nobody had survived an escape there, not one single person.

They chose to gamble on their lives as they knew that life at Alcatraz was not much better than death and were ready to meet challenges that might develop on their next journey.
